This guide describes how to access and use the Add Player to Team and Show Earlier Batters features:
- The Add Player to Team feature is used to add players who weren’t included when the match was set up.
- The Show Earlier Batters feature allows batters who were previously retired or dismissed to bat again in the same innings.
These features, which are accessed from several different menus and dialogues in the NV Play Cricket for Windows software, are especially useful in junior cricket when you need to add players during a match or allow batters to return in the same innings.
One or more of these options is available from the following dialogue boxes and dropdowns in the NV Play Cricket software:
Striker and Non-Striker dropdowns
The Striker and Non-Striker dropdowns in the Play Control panel include the Add Player to Team and Show Earlier Batters options at the bottom of their respective lists:
- Select Add Player to Team to open the standard Add Player dialogue. From here, you can search for an existing player or create a new one. After you add them, the usual Auto Correct prompt appears, allowing you to replace the existing striker or non-striker. If you select No, the Retired Out or Retired Not Out prompt appears.
- Select Show Earlier Batters to display previously dismissed or retired batters at the top of the list. You can then select one of these to return as striker or non-striker. This also triggers the Auto Correct workflow and Retired Out or Retired Not Out prompt.
Bowler dropdown
The Bowler dropdown in the Play Control panel includes the Add Player to Team option.
If you add a bowler between overs, they automatically become the current bowler. If you add them during an over, the Auto Correct workflow is triggered. You’ll be asked whether to replace the current bowler for the entire over.
Confirm Bowler dialogue
The Confirm Bowler dialogue includes the Add Player to Team option. Selecting this opens the Add Player dialogue. Once added, the new player appears as the default bowler. Click OK to confirm.
Confirm Batter dialogue
The Confirm Batter dialogue includes both Add Player to Team and Show Earlier Batters (if a batter has been dismissed or retired).
Previously Retired Not Out batters always appear in this list because they’re more likely to return in standard matches.
- Select Add Player to Team to open the Add Player dialogue. The added player appears as the default selection. Click OK to confirm.
- Select Show Earlier Batters to show previously dismissed or retired batters at the top of the list (in grey). Double-click a batter to open the Additional Innings prompt. When you confirm an Additional Innings for a batter, a new row is added to the scorecard, scorebook, and other match records.
For web-admin users, the Show Earlier Batters feature replaces the Can Return setting in the match type configuration. This feature is now always available, regardless of competition rules, so there’s no need to confirm whether returning batters are allowed.
