This guide demonstrates how to use the Fielding panel to record fielding actions and enhance match analysis.

The Fielding Panel
The Fielding panel (View > Scoring Entry > Fielding) lists the fielding side in batting order by default, along with player shirt numbers, and is helpful for identifying unfamiliar players. The captain is highlighted in the list with an asterisk (*), and the wicketkeeper with a plus sign (+) or cross (×).
This panel is typically located in the bottom-left corner of the NV Play Cricket for Windows interface when using a default Scoring view (View > Scoring - Default or View > Scoring - All Coding).
- To order the list by shirt number (lowest at the top, highest at the bottom), click the Settings cog icon (
) in the panel's top-right corner and select Order by Shirt Number.
- To automatically adjust the text size on the panel when the panel is adjusted, click the Settings cog icon (
) in the panel's top-right corner and select Size to Fit.
You can also set the software to always order fielders by shirt number by going to Tools > Configuration > Scoring and ticking the Order fielders by shirt number in Bowler and Fielding drop-downs and panels box in the top Scoring Options section.
Recording Fielding Actions
To record who fielded a ball:
- Click on the fielder's name in the Fielding panel list.
- Enter the runs or extras on the Scoring panel.
If you are recording shot locations using the Wagon Wheel the fielder can be selected either before or after the Wagon Wheel entry, but both must be made before scoring the delivery.
- The fielder's name appears in the Ball by Ball panel under the Fielding column.
To record a sub not listed in the team:
- Click sub (New...) at the bottom of the Fielding panel list. The Add Sub Fielder dialogue opens, pre-populated with the name "Sub".
- Enter the substitute's name. Append it to the pre-filled "Sub" text (e.g., "Sub Smith") to maintain accurate reporting.
- If the substitute is part of the team's squad, click Select from Player Database and choose from the list.
- Click Save. The temporary fielder is added to the fielding list for future use.
Detailed Fielding Events
When the Detailed Fielding Events option is enabled, double-clicking a player in the Fielding panel opens a pop-up where you can record additional fielding information.
To enable this feature:
- Go to Tools > Configuration. The Configuration dialogue opens.
- Click the Scoring tab.
- Tick the Use detailed Fielding Events pop-up checkbox in the upper Scoring Options section.
- Click OK.
When enabled, the pop-up box allows you to:
- Choose the fielding event type (e.g., Dive Save).
- Specify fielding position and runs saved or cost.
- Add the data for the selected fielder by clicking the Add button.
This data is added to the ball when the delivery is recorded and reflected in fielding reports from the Statistics menu (Statistics > Excel Reports > Fielding Report > Innings). The fielder's name is also shown for the ball under the Fielding column on the Ball by Ball panel.
