Collaborative Scoring with More than One Scorer/Analyst

This guide explains how multiple scorers and analysts can work collaboratively on a match using the NV Play Cricket for Windows software’s Competition Management System (CMS) integration features, including how to manage live scoring roles, communicate, and resolve scoring discrepancies.

Scroll to the bottom of the page to view a video summary of the functions described in this guide.

This guide includes the following topics:

Connecting to the CMS

Each user must log in with their username and password to connect to the Content Management System. Multiple users can connect to the same match as:

  • Writers: Scorers, analysts, system admins, or;
  • Readers: Coaches, players, referees, media staff, and club members.

Any number of users can score the same match as a support scorers, but only one person can be the Live Scorer at a time. Only their score is uploaded to the CMS.

Starting and joining a match

The Live Scorer should begin by downloading a fixture and turning it into a match:

  1. Go to File > Start Match from Fixture. The Start Match From Fixture dialogue opens. This dialogue displays "Connected to Server" in the top-right corner if you are signed in. If you are not signed in, click the Connect to Server button in the top-right corner of the dialogue and enter your username and password credentials on the Login dialogue screen.
  2. Use the filter dropdowns along the top of the dialogue to find the correct fixture (Club, Competition, Venue, Team, Match Type, and the date range pickers).
  3. Select the required fixture from the list and then click the Continue button. The match downloads from the server and a new Start Match From Fixture dialogue opens.
  4. Set up the match and team information on the Start Match From Fixture dialogue. Some or all details might be pre-populated by the CMS system.
  5. Click the arrow on the Start Scoring button and select Start as Live Scorer. The fixture is now a match, which can be opened and used collaboratively by other writer and reader users.

All other roles (other than the Live Scorer) should now:

  1. Go to File > Open Match. The Open Match dialogue opens.
  2. Use the filters along the top of the Open Match dialogue to find the correct match (Club, Competition, Venue, Team, Match Type, and the date pickers).
  3. Select the match in the list.
  4. Click the arrow on the Open for Scoring button and choose the appropriate role (support scorer, reader, etc.).

When more than one user is connected to the same match, the right end of the status bar shows:

  • Number of connected writers (pencil icon).
  • Number of readers (person icon).

Hover over these to see who is connected and their roles.

Messaging and communication

To message others through the software (e.g. to confirm an umpire signal):

  1. Right-click on the reader/writer count on the status bar. A menu opens.
  2. Click the Broadcast Message menu option. The Broadcast Message dialogue opens.
  3. Type a message into the text field.
  4. Select the recipients of the message using the radio buttons (Readers, Writers or All Users).
  5. Click Send. The message will appear in a pop-up on the screens of the selected recipients. The pop-up also includes the sender's name.

End of over score checks

To enable automatic score checks at the end of every over:

  1. Go to Tools > Configuration. The Configuration dialogue opens.
  2. Click the Network tab.
  3. Tick the Show end of over score check when other scorers are connected box in the Collaborative Scoring section.
  4. Click OK.

When this feature is enabled, the first three scorers to end an over are shown the totals of the three scorers on the End of Over Score Check dialogue. This is used to quickly check that all scorers have entered the same scores and correct any mismatches.

The dialogue shows different information, depending on whether the scores match or not:

  • Matching scores: If all three sets of scores match, a message is shown in the bottom-left corner of the dialogue stating "Scores identical". No action is needed, and you can click the Close button and continue scoring.
  • Mismatched scores: If any of the scores differ from the others, a message is shown in the bottom-left corner of the dialogue stating "Scores differ" in red text. Mismatched items are highlighted in red text in the relevant tables. The scorer with the error must click the Go to Edit Mode button and edit the delivery (click the Edit button on the Play Control panel, select the delivery on the Ball by Ball panel, and then change the score on the Scoring panel, then exit edit mode) to resolve the mismatch.

A repeat check after an edit ensures consistency and is performed automatically if any of the other scorers still have their End of Over Score Check dialogue open.

Live match upload options

Scoring and analyst data entries can be configured to automatically upload to the competition management system at specified intervals, after a match event, or only when manually triggered.

To configure your live match uploads:

  1. Go to Tools > Configuration. The Configuration dialogue opens.
  2. Click the General tab.
  3. Choose the required upload interval from the Live Match Upload section. These are:
    • Manual: Upload only when manually triggered by clicking the Sync Now icon on the status bar, or by right-clicking the icon and selecting an upload option.
    • Every Ball/Event: Upload after every delivery or event.
    • Every Over/Wicket/Break in Play: Upload at the end of each over, wicket, or interval.
    • Every [N] Minutes: Upload after every set time interval.
  4. Click OK to save and close.

Regardless of the upload settings you configure, you can manually upload at any time using the Sync Now icon and menu options on the status bar.

If your internet connection is lost, match data is uploaded automatically when reconnected.

Taking over as Live Scorer

If the Live Scorer cannot continue for any reason, any support scorer can take over as Live Scorer.

To take over as Live Scorer:

  1. Go to Live > Upload as Live Scorer. The Upload Match dialogue opens.
  2. Click the Register as Live Scorer button. The Upload as Live Scorer dialogue opens, detailing who the current Live Scorer is, when they last uploaded, and the current state of play.
  3. Select one of the following choices before taking over as Live Scorer:
    • Click the Download from Server button to download the server version of the match. This will overwrite your version with the latest Live Scorer’s match details. Use this option when the Live Scorer's version is more accurate or complete.
    • Click the Upload Local Copy button to upload your local version of the match to the competition management server, overwriting to server version. Use this option when the support scorer's match is more accurate or complete.
  4. Click Continue on the confirmation dialogue, then Continue again. The status bar updates to reflect the new Live Scorer, who can continue scoring the match using either their own previous match data, or the data of the previous Live Scorer (depending on the option selected). The previous Live Scorer becomes a local scorer and will be notified of the change when they next score a delivery.

Support scorers can also take over as Live Scorer by clicking the Sync Now icon on the status bar and repeating the steps above.

Ensuring match consistency

To switch from a local scorer role to a support scorer role:

  1. Go to File > Close Match. The match closes.
  2. Go to File > Open Match. The Open Match dialogue opens.
  3. Use the filters along the top of the Open Match dialogue to find the correct match to reopen (Club, Competition, Venue, Team, Match Type, and the date pickers).
  4. Select the match in the list.
  5. Tick the Download Latest from Server box.
  6. Click the arrow on the Open for Scoring button and choose the support scorer role. The Open Match dialogue opens, warning that your local match copy will be overwritten.
  7. Click Continue. The match is downloaded and opened with the latest synced version.

This process can be used at any point during a match to ensure you’re scoring from the most accurate version.
