This guide explains how to use the Auto Score feature, how to enable it, and when to use it to help you score games more efficiently.
Overview
Auto Score reduces the workload on a Video Analyst by removing the need to manually score each ball. With Auto Score enabled, scoring data comes through instantly from the Live Scorer. This allows the Video Analyst to focus on high performance coding, capturing ball clips, or other tasks.
Auto Score is resilient to network issues. If the Live Scorer is temporarily disconnected, the Video Analyst can continue to code. The scoring data syncs when the connection resumes.
Auto Score requires two connected users:
- A Live Scorer
- A Video Analyst with Auto Score enabled
To enable Auto Score:
- Go to the Scoring menu.
- Click Auto Score from Live Scorer. A tick appears to the left of the menu item when the feature is enabled.
Some cricket boards still require two official scorers. This can be achieved by using a Support Scorer to share end-of-over checks with the Live Scorer.
Supported Collaborative Scoring Configurations
- Live Scorer + Video Analyst manually clipping ball clips
- Live Scorer sending ball timings (e.g. using Start/Stop Ball or Opta/Ellipse feed) + Video Analyst using Collaborative Capture. In this setup, the analyst captures clips automatically based on the Live Scorer’s timings.
- Live Scorer + Video Analyst with Auto Start Ball enabled. This unlocks the coding panels, allowing the analyst to add high performance data live. The Video Analyst clicks End Ball or End Ball Clip to begin the next ball. Scoring data continues to come in, so the analyst can work behind the Live Scorer if needed.
- Live Scorer with high performance data (e.g. Opta/Ellipse) + Video Analyst with Auto Start Ball disabled. The analyst can observe and supplement the live feed, editing high performance data as required.
Unsupported Collaborative Scoring Configurations
The following configurations are not officially supported. NV Play customer support is not available if issues occur:
- Live Scorer + Video Analyst with Auto Score, Collaborative Capture, and Radar connected. In this setup, radar cannot be triggered, as the Video Analyst must use Start Ball Clip to activate it.
- Live Scorer + Video Analyst using both Auto Score and Auto Capture. This setup is not resilient to network delays or system performance issues and may cause missed clips or inaccurate timings. Use at your own risk. Read the Using Auto Score with Auto Capture note below for limitations and recommendations.
- Live Scorer + Video Analyst using Auto Switch Ends. End switching will not occur automatically and all video will come from a single end unless manually changed.
- Mobile Live Scorer + Video Analyst using Collaborative Capture. The Mobile Scoring app does not support sending ball timings, so clips will not be captured.
Using Auto Score with Auto Capture
This unsupported combination might work under ideal conditions, where:
- The Auto Capture machine receives balls one at a time immediately after they're scored
- Both machines have fast and stable internet connections
- Auto Start Ball is enabled on the Auto Capture machine
However, this configuration is vulnerable to:
- Transient network issues
- Slow or unreliable internet
- Scoring discrepancies
- Performance issues on either machine
These issues might cause missed clips or incorrect timings.
If you experience issues with video or ball timings:
- Switch to manual clipping using Start Ball Clip and Stop Ball Clip, or;
- Have the Live Scorer send timings directly to the video capture machine using Start Ball and End Ball
NV Play customer support assistance is not available for unsupported configurations.
