Scheduling a Live YouTube Stream

If you schedule your YouTube live streams in advance, you can share them with club members and fans as upcoming events on social media platforms, through email, or on your club website before they go live.

Upcoming YouTube streams are also shown by default on your YouTube channel, and notifications of these events are sent to your subscribers if they have notifications enabled.

By scheduling streams, instead of YouTube simply starting streams on game day, you create a placeholder event on your YouTube channel. These events have a title, a description, a thumbnail, and a scheduled start time.

To stream to YouTube from the NV Play Cricket software, you must first locate your stream key.

To schedule a future live YouTube stream:

  1. Open a browser and navigate to YouTube Studio (https://studio.youtube.com).
  2. Sign into your YouTube account if you aren't logged in automatically.

  3. Click the Create button in the top-right corner of the Youtube Studio home screen and select Go live. The Live Streaming screen opens, showing the Stream settings tab.

  4. Click the Manage button on the left menu.

  5. Click the Schedule Stream button in the upper right-hand corner. The Create stream dialogue opens.

  6. Type the name of the stream in the Title field near the top of the dialogue. This should be the name of the event, for example "England vs Australia".

  7. Type a description of the event in the Description field, including the venue.
  8. Leave the How do you want to go live? dropdown on the Streaming software option, as you will be using NV Play Cricket for Windows as the stream generator.
  9. Open the Category dropdown and select Sports.
  10. Optionally, upload a thumbnail image by clicking the Upload thumbnail box and choosing an image file from your computer.
  11. Specify whether the stream is made for children using the Yes, it's made for kids and No, it's not made for kids radios. Generally, you should select the Yes, it's made for kids unless you have a specific reason to choose otherwise.
  12. If you have added a sponsor watermark to your stream, click the Show more button and tick This stream contains paid promotion like a product placement, sponsorship, or endorsement.
  13. Click the Next button. The Customization tab opens.

  14. Specify whether you want viewers of the stream to be able to chat during the live stream or react to the live stream. If you leave the chat options enabled, you should actively moderate them during the stream. For that reason, you might want to disable them.
  15. Click the Next button. The Visibility tab opens.

  16. Select the visibility of the stream. The options provided are Private, Unlisted or Public. This defaults to Public, which should be left unchanged unless you have a specific reason to choose one of the other options.
  17. Click the Date dropdown under the Schedule section and choose the date of the live stream from the calendar.
  18. Click the Time field under the Schedule section and set the time of the day that the stream is scheduled to begin. This does not need to be exact as you must manually start the live stream but gives YouTube viewers a general indication of the time you expect the stream to start.
  19. Click Done. The scheduled stream is added to the Manage screen.

Once saved, scheduled streams are listed as Upcoming events on your YouTube channel's Live tab.

On match day, return to YouTube Studio, click the Manage menu button, and then click the name of the scheduled event to activate the stream.

The live YouTube stream will begin as soon as you start streaming from the NV Play Cricket software (using the Start Live Stream button on the Video Display panel), if your live stream configuration includes your YouTube stream key.

To share your upcoming YouTube stream, open YouTube and click your profile image in the upper-right corner. Click the View your channel link and then click the Live tab in the centre of the screen. Your upcoming stream appears as a thumbnail with "Upcoming" above it. Click the three dots in the bottom-right corner of the thumbnail and select Share. Share the stream link directly to Facebook, Twitter/X, or by email here, or click the Copy button and paste the link to a website.
