Quick Start Guide to Scoring
Follow the steps below to get your NV Play Cricket software up and running quickly.
If you have any problems, use the search bar at the top of the page to find answers to your questions, or read through our quick start help section. Welcome to the NV Play Cricket team and happy scoring!
1. Install and open the software
Download, install and launch NV Play Cricket for WIndows:
- Download and install the software.
- Launch the NV Play Cricket software once installed.
- If you don't have login credentials, click the Continue without Login button on the Login prompt.
- If you have credentials (provided by your club or governing body), enter your username and password and then click Login.
2. Start a match
Then create a new match, or load an existing fixture:
- Click File > New Match from the main menu to set up a new fixture.
- Alternatively, click File > Start Match From Fixture if the match has already been created (either by you at an earlier date, or by an administrator).
- Before you score a live match, try out the NV Play Cricket software's features using the preloaded demonstration match. This match loads automatically when you first run the NV Play Cricket software. You can reopen this demonstration match later by going to File > Open Match and searching for matches played on the day you first tried the software.
3. Set up clubs and teams
Set up clubs and teams in the software:
From the New Match dialogue:
- Add the clubs, teams, and players for each side team.
- Search for registered players or add new players manually.
- Assign a captain, wicketkeeper, and twelfth player for each team.
- Enter the start date, match type (e.g. One Day, T20, Multi-Day), and venue.
4. Start scoring
To begin scoring a match:
- Click Start Scoring, then choose Start as Live Scorer.
- On the Play Control panel, click Record Toss and record the toss winner and their decision.
- Tick the Create First Innings checkbox and then click Save.
To begin play:
- Click Start Play on the Play Control panel.
- Confirm the opening batter, the opening end, the umpire at that end, and the opening bowler.
To score deliveries:
- Use the Scoring panel to record each delivery. Click Runs, Wicket, or other action buttons as the play unfolds.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to enter further details.
To correct scoring mistakes:
- Click the Undo button (right end of the Play Control panel) to remove the last action or ball. Click the button repeatedly to remove more entries in reverse chronological order.
- To edit an earlier entry:
- Select the delivery in the Ball by Ball panel.
- Click the Edit button on the Play Control panel to enter Edit mode (the Edit button and the currently entered action button turns yellow).
- Enter the correct information, and then click Auto Correct to update all affected deliveries.
- Click the yellow Edit button to return to normal Scoring mode.
To view match progress:
- Click the Scorebook tab on the Scoreboard panel to see a traditional scorebook layout.
- Use the Ball by Ball panel for a detailed delivery-by-delivery view.
To end an innings:
- When an innings finishes, a confirmation message appears. Click Yes.
- The Start Ball button on the Play Control panel changes to a Next Innings button, ready for the next innings.
5. End and finalise the match
Finally, once the match is complete:
- Click the End Match button on the Play Control panel.
- Review and finalise the scorecard, confirm the result, and generate any required reports.
