Live Streaming: Step 1 Preparations

This page describes the essential configuration and customisation steps you should perform before match day to ensure smooth live streaming.

Scroll to the bottom of the page to view a video summary of the functions described in this guide.

Check Team Colours and Logos

To check the team colours and logo images set for the playing teams in the NV Play Cricket database:

  1. Go to Tools > Edit Database. The Edit Database dialogue opens.
  2. Click the Teams tab.
  3. Open the Club dropdown menu and select the home team club. The teams list populates.
  4. Select the home team from the teams list to the left of the dialogue.
  5. Check that the Team Colours boxes are set to the correct the colours (primary and seconday). Update if necessary by clicking the boxes and selecting a new colour. Live streaming overlays default to the primary colour but change to the secondary colour if both teams use the same primary colour.
  6. Check that the image beside Team Logo is using the correct image file. Update if necessary by clicking the Replace button and selecting the correct logo from your computer. This image must be in JPEG or PNG format and circlular logos are preferred for better overlay fit.
  7. Repeat from step 2 for the visiting team.
  8. Click Close to save and close the dialogue.

Temporarily Override Team Colours

On game day you might need to temporarily override the team colours specified in your database for a single game (if, for example, there is not enough contrast between the team colours set for the opposing teams). Once the game has finished, the software will revert to the colours specified in your database.

To override the team colours on game day:

  1. Click the Settings cog icon in the top right corner of the Video Display panel (View > Video > Video Display). A menu opens.
  2. Click Overlay Settings in the menu. The Overlay Settings dialogue opens.
  3. Click the box beside Team 1.  The Colour dialogue opens.
  4. Choose a new colour from the colour picker.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Repeat for Team 2, if necessary.
  7. Click OK to save and close the Overlays Settings dialogue.

Add a Watermark Logo to Your Stream

You can add a custom logo image to the top-left corner of the streamed image. For example, an image of your team or club logo, or the logo of a sponsor.

To add a custom watermark logo:

  1. Click the Settings cog icon in the top right corner of the Video Display panel (View > Video > Video Display). A menu opens.
  2. Click Overlay Settings in the menu. The Overlay Settings dialogue opens.
  3. Click the Browse button beside Custom Logo. The File Explorer dialogue opens.
  4. Navigate to the required image file on your computer, click the file, and then click Open.
  5. Click OK to save and close the Overlays Settings dialogue. When the video overlay is enabled (by clicking the Settings cog icon in the top right corner of the Video Display panel and then selecting Show Overlay on Video Display) the logo is shown in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Preload Streaming Media Files

We recommend that you prepare and maintain a media library of team logos, sponsor image files, pre-roll animations for fours, sixes and wickets, and ads to play during breaks.

These files should be stored on your computer in the following folder: Documents\Cricket Matches\_Media.

The team logo images you prepare should ideally:

  • Be 300 × 300 pixels (or square) for clarity.
  • Use a transparent background PNG for the cleanest look.

The NV Play Cricket software will also accept images in other formats (such as GIF), or without transparent backgrounds, but be aware that these might look soft or jagged on video overlays. Video files should be in MP4 format.

Next, you should check that your computer's hardware and software settings have been correctly optimised. See Live Streaming: Step 2: Software and Hardware Configuration.
