Using a Mobile Device as an IP Camera

This guide explains how to use your iOS or Android phone mobile phone as a live camera source for the NV Play Cricket for Windows software.

In this guide:

  1. Setup on iPhone
  2. Setup on Android
  3. Issues and FAQs

Your phone and the computer running NV Play Cricket must be connected to the same network, either by Wi-Fi or mobile hotspot. Ensure both devices are connected correctly before continuing.

Setup on iPhone

To use an iPhone as an IP camera, we recommend the Periscope HD app. This third-party app broadcasts an RTSP camera feed on your local wireless network or mobile hotspot. Periscope HD supports:

  • 720p video streaming
  • Audio and video
  • 30 frames per second

The steps below use the Periscope HD app as an example. You might already use a different wireless IP camera app, or want to use another app that can perform this task, but you should note that NV Play does not offer support for third-party software.

To configure the Periscope HD app on your iPhone:

  1. Download the Periscope HD app from the App Store and install on your iPhone.
  2. Accept the required permissions (camera and microphone access).
  3. Tap the settings cog at the bottom of the screen.

  4. Copy the RTSP URL to your laptop or desktop computer.
  5. Adjust any streaming settings as needed.
  6. Tap the back button to return to the camera screen.

In NV Play Cricket:

  1. Click Tools > Configuration. The Configuration dialogue opens.
  2. Click the Video Capture tab.
  3. Add a new capture device (Add new Capture Device) or edit an existing one (Settings). The Capture Device Settings dialogue opens.

  4. Select IP Camera as the device type.
  5. Paste the RTSP URL into the Camera Address (RTSP) field.
  6. Click OK and then OK again. NV Play Cricket will now display the output from your iPhone camera.

Setup on Android

To use an Android phone as an IP camera, we recommend the IP Webcam app. This third-party app supports video streaming to other devices. IP Webcam supports:

  • 1080p video streaming
  • Audio and video
  • Maximum frames per second (depending on your phone camera)

The steps below use the IP Webcam app as an example. You might already use a different wireless IP camera app, or want to use another app that can perform this task, but you should note that NV Play does not offer support for third-party software.

To configure the IP Webcam app on your Android phone:

  1. Download the IP Webcam app from the Play Store and install on your Android phone.
  2. Open the app.
  3. Adjust any desired settings (e.g. video resolution, orientation, or quality).
  4. Scroll to the bottom and tap Start Server.
  5. Accept the required permissions (camera and microphone access).
  6. Note the IP address and port number shown at the bottom of the screen (e.g. 123.456.789.10:8080).

  5. In the Camera Address (RTSP) field, enter "rtsp://" followed by the IP address and port obtained from the Android app, followed by "/h264_pcs.sdp". For example: "rtsp://123.456.789.10:8080/h264_pcs.sdp".
  6. Click OK and then OK again. NV Play Cricket will now display the output from your Android camera.

Issues and FAQs

Q: Periscope HD is showing 0.0.0.0 for the RTSP URL. How can I fix this?

A: To correct this, first manually retrieve your iPhone's IP address:

  1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the blue information icon next to your connected Wi-Fi network.
  3. In the IPv4 Address section, copy the IP address.

Then, in NV Play Cricket, enter the RTSP address manually in the following format: rtsp://<IP Address>:8554/live.sdp. For example: rtsp://123.456.789.10:8554/live.sdp.
